Sacred Heart Girls’ College has a long and valued tradition of welcoming International students into our caring, supportive and safe environment where they learn, develop and reach their full potential.

The school also has a long tradition of excellence, since being established in 1884, with top performance in National examinations, a National Award for Pastoral Care and a Christian hospitality to students from all backgrounds.


Sacred Heart Girls’ College is close to the centre of Hamilton City (159,000) – New Zealand’s 4th largest city and largest inland city. Hamilton is in the Waikato region, famous for its agriculture, education facilities, tourist attractions and fine restaurants. It is a clean, safe, friendly modern university city, centrally located less than 1.5 hours drive from Auckland International Airport.


Our attractive well resourced campus offers a modern, well equipped library, a visual arts suite, music suite, creative arts centre for the Performing arts including a theatre, a technology block, commercial kitchen and barista facilities, science laboratories, full sized gymnasium, artificial surface court and fitness centre.

Academic Programmes and English Language Support

Sacred Heart Girls’ College offers an exciting academic programme with a wide range of subjects. The Students are taught to Excellence level and are challenged to think and excel. The examination results for NCEA are well above the National average at all three levels. Specialist tuition in

English language is offered within the curriculum at no extra cost. Students are tested and placed in appropriate classes to continue to develop their English language. Classes in English Language are very small and a homework club is also on offer for the girls. A wide range of subject choices are on offer and the International Dean supports their academic pathways.

Student Welfare and Accommodation

International students are welcomed and are well supported by staff whose special responsibility is to ensure their easy integration into the school community. Small groups of International Peer Supporters (IPSers) link up with International Students on arrival so friendships begin immediately. There are buddies in every class who also assist students.

Most International students live in homestay accommodation. The Kiwi homes are personally selected by International staff and visited regularly to ensure all is well. Police vetting gives further assurance. Sacred Heart Girls’ College won a National Award for Excellence in Pastoral Care of International students. This award assures parents that their daughter will be looked after very well indeed. Students also benefit from the school’s comprehensive pastoral care system which includes year level Deans and a full-time Guidance Counsellor.
