From the Principal
As we end another term, we can see the seasons changing by paying attention to Mother Nature. Not to ruin the image of the cherry blossoms, but this sign of Spring is a sign for Seniors to get their heads, hearts, and hands deep into the exam season: switch off the internet, control the scroll, sacrifice the socialising, and practice the exam performance – Age Quod Agis – Pay Attention.
Our students are encouraged to immerse themselves in each ‘season’ of the learning process – and the ‘head-down’ season is upon them now! It takes self-discipline to overcome the impulse of distraction, especially from demanding instant results. Then, like the Psalmist, they can “wait in patience for God’s promise is forever” to help them do what must be done ... study!
Winter Sport has involved many students, parents, staff and volunteers. We appreciate the contribution that everyone makes to this essential part of College life – our students should be commended for their high participation rate in our sport programme. Of course, we all like the feelings that accompany a win! However, there are lessons to be learned from being a gracious runner-up – losing is possible and sometimes probable! The benefit of maintaining this perspective is a reminder of what can be grown and developed as a member of any team: collaboration, the fine-tuning of skills that benefit all, and acknowledging the diverse gifts brought to a team, as we chase a common goal. Thank you to the many coaches and managers who volunteer their time to support our students across a wide range of sport and team activities. It is a strength of our community that we have so many parents, especially those who, by supporting their own children, they support yours too.

Heart Attack Chorus 2024 Champions
This week, the Sacred Heart Barbershop Chorus—Heart Attack and Quartet groups travelled to Wellington to defend their prestigious Chorus title—and they did not disappoint! Their performance was remarkable, showcasing the students’ incredible dedication and hard work, led by our talented Musical Director, Lynn Jamieson. Not only were they awarded the prestigious title of 2024 Upper Voice Barbershop Champions, but they were also awarded the overall highest score and Most Supportive Chorus!
Congratulations to all the girls for their polished performance and well-deserved victory!

Encanto Reo Māori
On Monday, as well as participating in Character Day, our Senior Te Reo Māori students went to the cinema to watch the Disney movie - Encanto. The Māori language version of Disney’s 2021 hit Encanto landed in theatres across Aotearoa last week, in time for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Encanto Reo Māori is a celebration of ahi kā – a pā environment where a village thrives. It is a collaboration of Colombian and Māori culture with similarities that celebrate community, intergenerational knowledge and respect for elders.

Support our Fundraiser: Revitalising our Outdoor Areas
The Mahi Tahi Project is well underway, creating a welcoming new entrance and vibrant community spaces for our community to enjoy.
Alongside this exciting project, we are also revitalising our outdoor areas where our students and staff can gather, unwind, and engage during breaks and class activities. With new seating, durable tables and benches, and thoughtfully designed landscaping, we’re shaping a space that truly reflects the heart of our community.
Our first fundraising initiative is a PTFA Quiz Night on Saturday, 2nd November! It will be a night full of fun, friendly competition, and community spirit, all for a great cause.
Ways to contribute to the Quiz Night:
