Let’s get together and feel alright. (Bob Marley translated by Ruia Aperahama).

Over the King’s Birthday weekend, the Mission Cup and Te Toa Shield tournaments were hosted in Napier. For all our Mission schools across the motu, and Oakleigh, Melbourne, this has been a long-standing community event for our netball and hockey players. Our teams embodied the essence of our motto Age Quod Agis (Pay Attention – Me Aro) as they played with determination, courage and attention to their skills, coaching and training. Te mana o te kura was left on the court and turf for all to witness! Thank you to the coaches, managers and supporters for their dedication to our students and their sport.

We also celebrated The Feast of the Visitation through Liturgy, manaakitanga and service, earlier in the week. With the presence of five Mission Sisters at our liturgy, we are humbled by their commitment to their vocation – like Mary and Elizabeth, who tend and befriend each other, we are blessed to have such role models of Messengers of Hope and Faith (and Joy!).

Kia pai te wiki – have a nice week!

Lincoln ki Aoraki

  • University Opportunities

Last week, six Year 12 and 13 students attended “Lincoln ki Aoraki,” a Lincoln University event designed to showcase opportunities for Māori and Pasifika students.

Students engaged in “wayfinding” activities that encouraged them to reflect on their purpose, goals, influences, and future aspirations while learning about available degrees, scholarships, and other university opportunities.

We were fortunate to have Anne Kaninteang, our 2024 Mission Leader, as guest speaker. Anne is a first-year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Global Business and is a recipient of Lincoln’s Pacific Excellence scholarship, valued at up to $25,000 per year.

We sincerely thank Lincoln University for their generosity and ongoing support of our tauira.

Girl Boss 2025

GirlBoss Edge Sustainability Challenge

  • Girl Boss 2025

During the April school holidays, over 300 young women from across New Zealand participated in an inspiring online programme called GirlBoss Edge: Sustainability. This innovative 10-day course was designed to fit around busy student schedules, requiring just 1-2 hours per day of self-paced learning.

The programme offered comprehensive modules covering essential life and career skills, including personal branding, networking, interview techniques, LinkedIn profile creation, mentorship, and scholarships. What made this experience particularly engaging were the nightly sessions featuring inspirational speakers such as renowned conservationists Clover Hogan and Melati Wijsen, and various entrepreneurs and sustainability leaders. These interactive sessions provided participants with real-world insights and motivation from industry experts.

Recognition came in various forms: the top six participants, including Year 11, Carlene Roque, received AirPods as a prize, while all graduates earned badges, reusable water bottles, and certificates acknowledging their commitment to sustainability and personal development.

This programme exemplifies how students can contribute meaningfully to environmental challenges while developing valuable professional skills. It proves that young people are ready and eager to take charge of a more sustainable future.

Visitors from Taiwan

  • International News

Last Wednesday morning, we had the pleasure of hosting 52 students and their teachers from Sacred Heart Girls’ School, Taiwan. Our talented quartet greeted the visitors upon arrival, followed by performances from our Barbershop singers in the Creative Arts Centre. The Taiwanese students reciprocated with their delightful song, creating a wonderful cultural exchange.

After enjoying morning tea together, complete with hokey pokey ice cream for our guests, small groups of our students led tours throughout the school. Students and staff received small keepsakes to commemorate their time with us.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all students and staff who contributed to the preparations and warmly engaged with our visitors. The Taiwanese delegation was genuinely impressed and felt thoroughly welcomed during their time with us.
