Athletics

If you want to keep fit, stay active, challenge yourself or simply be with like-minded people, come and give athletics a go. Our school Athletics Day is our first House competition of the year – so get involved!

SHGC athletes participate at the local Central Zones Event and Waikato Bay of Plenty Championships.

A lot of students who participate in Athletics (October – April) are affiliated with a local Club. All of these clubs provide coaching and help to their members. The internet will provide you with contact details and information regarding these clubs.

Well Done!

On Tuesday 5th March, I had the pleasure and privilege to take the SHGC Athletics Team to the Waikato Central Zones Athletic Championships. Whilst we were blessed with the dry weather, it was extremely hot and made competing at a high level challenging. However, this did not deter our young women from giving it their best, competing against some very formidable competition and achieving some outstanding results. From this Central Zones Competition, if placed in the top six for their chosen discipline, students qualify to advance to the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Championships on Saturday 23rd March at Porritt Stadium. Overall we had 22 of our 40 strong team qualify for Waikato/ BOP Champs, which is an outstanding effort. A special congratulations must go to Kayla Goodwin who broke the long standing triple jump record from 1989 of 11.42 by 80cm, jumping 12.22!

Uniform
SHGC singlet, black shorts/tights. NB: the Athletics singlet is not sold. Instead, students are loaned a singlet from the school and a $10.00 bond will be charged to their account. If the singlet is not returned by the due date (as advised by the Code Coordinator), the bond will not be refunded and a further $20.00 will be invoiced by the school.

Fees
An affiliation fee is paid by the school each year. For all competitions, individual fees are based on the # of events a student enters. Payment details will be advised by the Code Coordinator.

Age Groups
