Waikato Secondary School Girls Championship 2020

SHGC 1st XV win Waikato Secondary School Girls 1st XV Rugby Title!
It is hard to believe after losing to HGHS 1st XV 144-0 last year, that 18 months on our SHGC 1st XV have just beaten them 24-20 to win the Waikato Secondary School Girls 1st XV Competition!
It was a high quality game of footy played by two talented teams. HGHS have been the bench mark in both Waikato Secondary School girls rugby and won numerous national titles, which makes the win even more remarkable.
Our first try in the match by our flying winger, Titietasi Sami, as she finished off a nice back-line movement down the sideline and Nina Trumm converting. Not long after, similar play resulted in Titietasi scoring again under the posts followed by another successful conversion. That meant we went into the halftime break leading 14-10. Reasonably early in the second half Dhanya King scored in the corner to increase our lead to 19-10. However, HGHS fought back into the match with two good tries to gain the lead 20-19. Our girls were not done yet and on the back of strong ball running, excellent support and gritty determination to win! Dhanya King scored again in the corner to close out the win and bring home the Championship to SHGC!
