During the April school holidays, over 300 young women from across New Zealand participated in an inspiring online programme called GirlBoss Edge: Sustainability.

GirlBoss Edge Sustainability Challenge

This innovative 10-day course was designed to fit around busy student schedules, requiring just 1-2 hours per day of self-paced learning.

The programme offered comprehensive modules covering essential life and career skills, including personal branding, networking, interview techniques, LinkedIn profile creation, mentorship, and scholarships. What made this experience particularly engaging were the nightly sessions featuring inspirational speakers such as renowned conservationists Clover Hogan and Melati Wijsen, and various entrepreneurs and sustainability leaders. These interactive sessions provided participants with real-world insights and motivation from industry experts.

Recognition came in various forms: the top six participants, including Year 11, Carlene Roque, received AirPods as a prize, while all graduates earned badges, reusable water bottles, and certificates acknowledging their commitment to sustainability and personal development.

This programme exemplifies how students can contribute meaningfully to environmental challenges while developing valuable professional skills. It proves that young people are ready and eager to take charge of a more sustainable future.
