Code of Conduct

Our goal is to ensure that every player participating in team sports has a positive and rewarding experience. This Code of Conduct provides parents, whaanau, supporters and players with clear guidelines on what is expected from a team representing our school.

We are committed to fostering a supportive environment and promoting positive sportsmanship by adopting these principles. Your acceptance of these guidelines is essential as we work together to nurture respectful, encouraging, and enjoyable experiences for all our athletes.

Players

All players of SHGC Teams must:

  • Play for enjoyment. Work just as hard for yourself as for your team.
  • Respect match officials’ decisions and acknowledge their efforts at the end of the game.
  • Be positive with officials and coaches, never argue, show appreciation, and remember that they are volunteers.
  • Use appropriate and acceptable language.  Never criticise someone for making a mistake or engaging in offensive or abusive behaviour.
  • Be committed to your team, attend all practices and games and cooperate with your team.
  • Be a good sport, respect everyone and applaud good play by your team and your opponent.
  • Encourage teammates to respect the opposition. Play hard but play by the rules.
  • Always wear the correct school and playing uniform with pride.
  • Show modesty in victory and grace in defeat.

Supporters

All supporters should consider the following:

  • Provide encouragement and support by praising efforts, performance and results in a positive manner
  • Respect your daughter’s efforts regardless of whether he wins, draws or loses.
  • Remember that students play sports for FUN and for their satisfaction, not yours.
  • Ensure your daughter attends all practices and is in the correct playing uniform for games.
  • Encourage fair play on and off the court/field, and applaud both teams’ performance.
  • Be positive with the officials and coaches; remember, they are volunteers.
  • Remain off the court/field and within the designated spectator’s area.
  • Display self-control on the sideline. Do not shout at or ridicule any officials or players on either team.
  • Always respect the match officials, referees, and opposition, and encourage players to do the same.
  • Show appreciation for the people who make it possible for your daughter to play sports. They are invariably volunteers, involved because they enjoy the game and want the young women in front of us to enjoy it too.
  • Never criticise a player for making mistakes – mistakes are part of learning.
  • Use appropriate language. Never engage in, or tolerate offensive or abusive behaviour.
