On Friday 8th March, 11 intrepid adventurers embarked on a journey that would test their skills, resilience, and camaraderie. Equipped with nothing but the essentials, and their determination, they set out to conquer the 25-kilometre round trip tramp, with Waitawheta Hut as their place of rest.
Under the watchful eyes of Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Cooper, the group commenced their expedition at the crack of dawn on a crisp Friday morning. With the sun barely peeking over the horizon, they marched forward, with their spirits high.
After a long day of tramping, they finally arrived at Waitawheta Hut, weary but triumphant. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air as they cooked hearty meals, played games, and even saw a curious possum visiting the hut’s verandah. As dawn broke on the following day, the group rose with renewed vigour, ready to tackle the journey back. This time, the path led downhill, offering a welcome respite from the uphill climb of the previous day.
In the distance, the school van appeared, signalling the end of their adventure. With cheers of joy and a sense of accomplishment in their hearts, they boarded the van, bidding farewell to the wilderness that had tested them and emerged victorious.
In the end, it was not just the stunning scenery or the physical challenges overcome that made the journey memorable. It was the bonds forged, the lessons learned, and the indomitable spirit of adventure that would stay with them forever.
