We arrived in Melbourne and went straight to Sacred Heart Oakleigh. We were greeted by the Principal, Mr Duncan and teachers who guided us throughout our visit. We also met our sisters and brothers from Sacred Heart Sorrento who had travelled from Perth. On Friday, it was Sacred Heart Day! The Mass was astonishing, the dance-off was breathtaking and the walkathon was very peaceful.
Our last few days consisted of experiencing the iconic ‘four seasons in one day’ and a lot of sightseeing – Melbourne is huge! Something different about our Sacred Heart Day and theirs was the walkathon. The money raised from the walkathon goes towards the Manobo Dulangan girls in the Philippines. The RNDM’s work over in the Philippines and the money raised provides the students with necessities such as education, food, water, clothing and healthcare. In fact, each homeroom teacher (in our case, CCM companions) at Sacred Heart Oakleigh supports a different girl from the Phillipines. Occasionally, the school pays the students’ University fees so that they can get a degree and return to their community to help their families. Such a good way to end Sacred Heart Week!
The opportunity to visit our ‘sisters’ in Melbourne was the best! We shared new experiences with each other and are forever grateful for it. Without Our Lady of the Missions, our amazing Mission Sisters, we wouldn’t be able to keep their legacy alive and continue the work they do, for others and for the Lord. I loved every bit of the trip!
