Mathematics

Mathematics is a natural way to organise and think. Even if mathematics isn’t essential for your tertiary education or eventual career choice, learning mathematics is vital in problem-solving, financial decision-making and brain health!

Algebra, graphs, geometry, measurement, number, probability, statistics and trigonometry make up the Mathematics course. Students develop numerical thinking, logical sequential thinking and problem-solving. Students will learn statistical literacy to become critical consumers of statistically-based information. These are skills required in many business roles and most areas of study.

Calculus

Students taking this subject will be solving problems and equations involving trigonometric functions, differentiation and integration in calculus, and situations involving manipulating real and complex numbers. The skills taught are challenging but encourage students to think abstractly and acquire skills needed in some lines of further study.

Statistics

Students studying Statistics will be analysing time series, bi-variate data and using a mathematical model involving curve fitting to solve a problem. Statistics at Levels 2 and 3 prepare students for future studies requiring statistical analyses. It enables them to correctly interpret statistical figures and graphs in the media and develop probability and distribution skills. Many tertiary courses now require statistical skills.

SSEP Programme

Our Mathematics and Science Learning areas are involved with the SSEP programme. Each Year 10 class may spend three lessons on this, visiting the workplaces and doing learning activities with the employers.
