Athletics and X-Country

If you want to keep fit, stay active, challenge yourself or simply be with like-minded people, come and give running a go. Our school Athletics Day is our first House competition of the year – so get involved!

A lot of students who participate in Athletics (October – April) and X-Country/Road running (May – September) are affiliated with a local Club. All of these clubs provide coaching and help to their members. The internet will provide you with contact details and information regarding these clubs.

Well Done!

We had six students represent Sacred Heart at the recent NZSS Track, Field and Road Race championships which were held in Dunedin. All the girls handled themselves in some tough windy conditions which affected the time and distances of some of the events. Kayla Goodwin was once outstanding picking up 2 golds, 1 silver and a 4th place. Kiana Pohe-Bright who was one of the youngest in her field knew it was going to be tough, She managed to achieve PB’s in the head wind and making both the 100m and 200m finals. Zoe Keenan had an impressive hurdles run to make the semi-finals of the 80m hurdles. Zoe and Kiana then teamed up with Alana Oliver, Sophia Wenceslao and Ruby Sinclair in the junior relay team which the qualified for the finals.

SHGC singlet, black shorts/tights. NB: the Athletics singlet is not sold. Instead, students are loaned a singlet from the school and a $10.00 bond will be charged to their account. If the singlet is not returned by the due date (as advised by the Code Coordinator), the bond will not be refunded and a further $20.00 will be invoiced by the school. SHGC crop tops can be purchased from the Teamwear Uniform Shop.

An affiliation fee is paid by the school each year. For all competitions, individual fees are based on the # of events a student enters. Payment details will be advised by the Code Coordinator.
